It was there! It was alive! It was awesomeness coated in fun and good wine!
On Friday August 24, 2012, Meridian organised a launch party for the publication of the first three books of the “Fairy Tales of the World” picture books series: “The Johnnycake”, “Little Chickpea”, and “Mole and Frog”! (see below for more information on these books)
We also presented the latest developments in our other projects, including “Taxi! The Cities and their Cabbies,” “The Meridian Club” and our supported project “Top Spin.” And Meridian being an openly green and epicurean organisation, we had a state-of-the-art road bike on display, and feasted on the delicacies prepared for us by master chef Cherry. A venerable Chinese ping-pong table from the 1950s was there for the benefit of all sports addicts.
Our party gathered more than a hundred people in the beautiful space we took over for the occasion, at the former Museum of Fine Arts of Houjie St., Beijing.
We presented the first printed samples of the Fairy Tales of the World books, and everyone helping us spread the word about the event on Weibo was offered a picture book for free! Lucky them, Sasha A. Lewis, talented British writer of “The Johnnycake,” was there to autograph his opus in person.
“The Johnnycake,” “Little Chickpea” and “Mole and Frog” are due to hit the shelves of bookstores around mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan starting from next week. Their international versions, in English, are due a little later this year.
